Several sites are available for planting “Tiny Forests” across the Hammersmith and Fulham borough.
The “Miyawaki” tiny forest method is the most effective tree planting method for creating forest cover quickly on degraded land that has been used for other purposes such as agriculture or construction. It is suitable for small spaces (20sqft to 1ha) , and therefore particularly effective in urban environments.
Tiny forests can grow into mature self-sustaining ecosystems in just 20 years, requiring very little to no maintenance. They act as an oasis for biodiversity, sequester carbon and other pollutants, heal the environment in many direct ways and help connect the local community back to nature.
So far, the Miyawaki forest movement has led to the creation of over 3000 primary forests and the planting of over 40 million native trees worldwide without the use of chemicals or artificial fertilisers.
